FA Cup Final Report: Manchester City v Watford 18 May 2019

FA Cup Final

Result: Manchester City 6-0 Watford

Date: 18 May 2018

Venue: Etihad

Manchester City completed a clean sweep of the domestic titles after clinching the FA Cup with a 6-0 thumping of Watford on Saturday evening.

Surprisingly City started without Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, with Riyad Mahrez given a rare start, as Watford opted with Heurelho Gomes and Gerard Deulofeu.

City were pinned back on 10 minutes after Deulofeu picked out Roberto Pereyra with a cross from the right, but Ederson saved from close-range.

The Citizens had their noses in front 26 minutes in when David Silva ended his long-running drought after wrong-footing Gomes with a left-footed poke.

Soon after, Watford struggled to gather momentum, with City in firm control of proceedings from defence to attack.

As such, the second sung on 38 minutes after Raheem Sterling bundled home a cut back from the far side by Gabriel Jesus with Gomes in no man's land.

Following an eventful first half, the newly-crowned English champions attempted a third on 48 minutes but Jesus saw his angled strike arrowed for a corner by Gomes.

Despite the healthy lead, City opted for a substitution in the 55th minute, as Mahrez made way for De Bruyne. As the Hornets pushed bodies forward, City nailed the third 61 minutes in when De Bruyne got on the end of a square pass from Jesus to finish past Gomes.

Javier Garcia rolled out the changes on 66 minutes, as Andre Gray and Isaac Success came on for Pereyra and Deulofeu.

The riot continued though, as Jesus secured his brace two minutes later after running through the defence to finish off De Bruyne's through pass.

Sterling added a fifth 81 minutes in with side-footing into the roof of the net following a low cross from Bernardo Silva.

Watford's misery worsened, as City netted a sixth on 87 minutes after Sterling smacked home a loose ball from close-range to complete his hat-trick and round off an emphatic win for the the Citizens.
