FA Cup Final Report: Chelsea v Leicester City 15 May 2021

Result: Chelsea 0-1 Leicester City

Date: 15 May 2021

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Leicester City have been crowned FA Cup champions for the first time in their history after defeating Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley Stadium.

Thomas Tuchel kept faith with Kepa in goal despite Edouard Mendy's form over the past few months, while Jonny Evans was fit enough to start for the Foxes after missing the midweek win over Manchester United.

After a cagey start, the Foxes carved out the game's first chance on 16 minutes when Timothy Castagne picked out Jamie Vardy who saw his effort blocked by Reece James.

The game began to open up after that as the Blues went close after 29 minutes when Thiago Silva's neat ball found the head of Timo Werner, who nodded wide of the mark.

Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers was forced into a first-half change in the final 10 minutes as star defender Evans was unable to continue, with Marc Albrighton coming on in a re-shuffle.

After a slow start, it was Leicester who broke the deadlock in emphatic fashion as Youri Tielemans found the top corner with a superb strike from distance.

Tuchel responded with a double change as Ben Chillwell and Christian Pulisic replaced Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso for the final 20 minutes

The Blues thought they had bagged the equaliser in the 89th minute through Chilwell but the goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee for offside on the former Leicester star,

In the end, Rodgers' side were able to see the late surge from Chelsea to claim their first piece of silverware since winning the Premier League title in 2016.
