The Red Devils suffered a 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in Spain in the second leg of their quarter-final, losing the tie 5-2 on aggregate.
Significant defensive errors from De Gea and Maguire summed up United's night in Seville, with Ten Hag saying his players lacked composure in the reverse fixture.
"It's clear. When we make such mistakes, it's difficult to win a football game," he said, according to the Daily Mirror.
"It's a problem and we have to acknowledge it but against Brighton, we have an opportunity to work on that.
"You have seen what I have seen. We were not composed or calm."
The Dutchman continued by bemoaning his team's lack of determination in their defeat, insisting that they will need to turn things around in their FA Cup semi-final against Brighton Hove Albion on Sunday.
"We lost the battles, they had more passion, more desire, more willingness, that's difficult to win games," he added.
