African Star Sends Man Utd Crashing Out Of Europe

Manchester United crashed out of the UEFA Europa League after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the second leg of their quarter-final on Thursday night.

Result: Sevilla 3-0 Manchester United (5-2 on agg.)

Date: 20 April 2023

Venue: Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium

Erik ten Hag made one change from Sunday's win over Nottingham Forest, as Marcel Sabitzer recovered from his knock and replaced the suspended Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

United got off to a poor start when Erik Lamela pounced on Harry Maguire's poor attempt at a back pass, before Youssef En-Nesyri slotted beyond a helpless David de Gea.

The visitors struggled to get a hold of the ball, but their first real opening goal arrived on 22 minutes when Antony's shot deflected into the path of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United did carve out another chance ten minutes before the halftime break when Antony did well to pick out Casemiro, who sent his header over the crossbar from close range.

Five minutes later, Sevilla had the ball in the back of the net for a second time when Lucas Ocampos expertly finished into the far, but celebrations were cut short as VAR spotted an offside in the build up.

Ten Hag responded with a double change at the start of the second half, with Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho making way for Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford.

However, Sevilla got the second goal two minutes into the stanza when Loic Bade got on the end of Ivan Rakitic's corner and looped the ball over De Gea via his shoulder.

Sevilla shot-stopper Yassine Bounou was finally called into action after the hour mark, as he produced a good save to keep out a powerful strike from Casemiro from just outside the area.

United were put out of their misery on 82 minutes when En Nesyri pounced on a horrible bit of control from De Gea and sent a first-time finish into the back of the net from 30 yards out.
