The Portuguese retained his 100% European finals record and helped the Red Devils become only the fifth side to complete the European set of titles.
Mourinho has now revealed that he called Ferguson after the game to tell him he had completed the club's title jigsaw.
"I joked with Sir Alex, telling him I did some work for him," the 54-year-old told Sky Italia.
"Because now we have all the European trophies and I won the only one he missed."
Ferguson also commented on United's Europa League glory, which came just days after the city was shocked by the Manchester attacks during an Ariana Grande concert, which resulted in 22 casualties.
"I think United gave the city a lift and I think that was what it was about," the Scot explained.
"We're all proud of them, it was a great achievement."
