Marseille took on Bongani Zungu's former club Vitoria de Guimaraes in Portugal on Thursday evening, where they lost 1-0.
The match made headlines long before the game started, though, after former Manchester United left back Evra was involved in a physical altercation with one of Marseille's travelling fans.
According to ESPN, a section of fans hurled insults at Evra during warm-ups to voice their displeasure with his recent performances, to which he responded with a kick to the face of one supporter.

Evra was sent off by the match official before the game started, but because he was among the substitutes, Marseille still started the match with 11 men on the field.
The French club's manager, Rudi Garcia, spoke to the media about the situation.
"Pat has experience and he must not react, it's obvious,'' he told beIN SPORTS.
"Patrice is a more than experienced player and we cannot respond to insults so low and so incredible because they come from one of our supporters.''

It is believed that Evra could face a long-term ban for his actions, while there have also been reports suggesting the supporter he kicked was not a Marseille fan.
