Venue: Stamford Bridge
Blues coach Mauricio Pochettino handed a first start to club-record signing Moises Caicedo in place of Carney Chukwuemeka, who misses out through injury.
The home side got the breakthrough in the 17th minute when Raheem Sterling weaved his way past a couple challenges before firing a low strike into the far corner to open his account for the season.
The Blues were in full control thereafter, with star midfielder Enzo Fernandez controlling the tempo although clear-cut chances were hard to come by in the final third.
Luton had to wait until the final five minutes of the half for their first sight at goal when former Blues man Ross Barkley sent a glancing header wide of the target at the near post.
Pochettino's charges carried that momentum into the second half and went close to grabbing a second goal after 53 minutes when Raheem Sterling picked out Enzo Fernandez who was denied by Thomas Kaminski.
The lead was doubled in the 68th minute as Malo Gusto got free down the right to pick out Sterling, who calmly slotted from ten yards out to complete his brace.
The Blues sealed the win with 15 minutes left on the clock as Sterling turned provider and sent a low cross for Nicolas Jackson to poke home and open his account for the club.
