In a move to perhaps strengthen the team's midfield in the aftermath of Kevin De Bruyne's injury, Pep Guardiola has landed Matheus Nunes' signature from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a five-year deal.

The Portugal international has become City's fourth arrival of the window after the acquisitions of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea, Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig and Jeremy Doku from Rennes.

On his transfer to last season's UEFA Champions League winners, the midfielder admitted finding it difficult to reject a switch to the Manchester outfit.

"I'm so happy to be joining Manchester City, the Champions of Europe and a club I've admired for a long time," he told the club's website.

"The opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest managers ever, and alongside some of the best players in the world was something I couldn't turn down.

"I've learned so much during my season at Wolves and I'm excited to continue improving in the Premier League, a division which brings the best out of me.

"I'm really excited to get going, meet the fans and hopefully be a part of plenty more success at City."

Nunes, 25, joined Wolves in August last year and had previously been linked with Liverpool.

The Citizens have reportedly paid €55 million (R1.1 billion) for the midfielder, who was sent off after a second yellow card in Wolves' 4-1 defeat to Brighton Hove Albion last weekend.
