The 23-year-old spent last season away from the Emirates Stadium when he was out on loan in Ligue 1 with Olympique Marseille, but despite that experience, Arteta still does not view the Lisbon native as part of his plans for the new campaign.
Consequently, the Spaniard has decided to loan out the Benfica youth academy product to Forest for the 2023/24 season, with the Nottingham club said to also have an option to buy Tavares for £12 million (R285 million) at the end of the campaign.
He becomes the second left-back Arteta has chosen to loan out this season, following Kieran Tierney's temporary departure to Real Sociedad.
