English Premier League
Result: Man Utd 3-0 Hull
Date: 29 November 2014
Venue: Old Trafford
Manchester United put in a dominant performance at home as they beat Hull City 3-0 at Old Trafford in their Premier League tie on Saturday.
Wayne Rooney made his presence felt early in the game. Juan Mata passed to the Rooney from the left and the England international smashed a shot from the edge of the area, only just missing the woodwork wide. The Red Devils broke through in the 16th minute. A corner kick was not dealt with by Hull and Chris Smalling took advantage. He headed the corner back across goal and Robin van Persie did enough to prevent McGregor from collecting the ball. It came back to Smalling who did just enough to push the ball over the line. The hosts were two goals clear in the 42nd minute as Rooney made it 2-0. A ball over the top beat the Hull defenders, allowing Van Persie to set it up for Rooney who drove the ball into the bottom corner with his powerful shot. There was some controversy in the 51st minute when Marouane Fellaini made a poor tackle in midfield. He was already on a yellow card and the Hull players were demanding a sending off, but the referee decided against the second booking. The result was secured in the 66th minute. Hull gave the ball away cheaply and Herrera gathered the loose ball to pick out Van Persie. The striker beat Chester with a deft touch before a thunderous finish into the top corner.
