English Premier League Report: Liverpool v Burnley 16 September 2017

English Premier League

Result: Liverpool 1-1 Burnley

Date: 16 September 2017

Venue: Anfield

Mohamed Salah cancelled out Scott Arfield's goal as Liverpool and Burnley played out to a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Liverpool needed a good response after a demoralizing defeat to Manchester City last weekend and the fixture against Burnley provided an opportunity for redemption for the Reds.

After a decent start from the home side, their first chance came in the path of Mohamed Salah after a cross from Daniel Sturridge found the head of the Egyptian international who nodded over the bar.

Moments later, Scott Arfield gave Burnley the lead against the run of play but did brilliantly to put his side ahead.

Liverpool responded quickly through Mohamed Salah who was alert to Emre Can's knock forward. The Egyptian put the home side level on the half-hour mark much to the delight of the home fans.

The Reds pushed for a second and Daniel Sturridge just missed out on James Milner's cross late in the half.

After a good start to the second half and a series of attempts from Philipe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge cut in from the right and forced a good save from Nick Pope in the Burnley goal.

Burnley launched a counter attack which Robbie Brady got to the end of. The wide midfielder cut in from the right and took a shot from distance but found Simon Mingolet alert in the Liverpool goals.

Miscommunication between Klavan and Can led to a Burnley corner. The set piece was fed into the Liverpool box and was met by defender Ben Mee who thought he had scored only to have his header cleared off the line.

It was exciting stuff at Anfield as both teams went for the winner and substitute Dominic Solanke's effort disappointingly hit the crossbar.

The Reds pushed and pushed but Burnely held on to earn their first point at Anfield.
