A statement put out by the French Football Federation (FFF) has confirmed a complaint has been filed to FIFA and the Argentina Football Association after some Argentine players were seen singing an offensive song in a video that circulated online.

"The President of the Federation Française de Football, Philippe Diallo, condemns in the strongest possible terms the unacceptable racist and discriminatory comments made against players of the French national team in the context of a song sung by players and supporters of the Argentina team after its victory in the Copa America and broadcast in a video on social networks," it read, as per Goal.

"In view of the seriousness of these shocking remarks, which run counter to the values of sport and human rights, the President of the FFF has decided to take his Argentine counterpart and FIFA directly to court and to file a complaint for racially offensive and discriminatory remarks."

The clip was seemingly recorded by Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, with the song aimed at the French national team containing lyrics that read: "They play for France, but their parents are from Angola. Their mother is from Cameroon, while their father is from Nigeria. But their passport says French."

Fernandez and some of his compatriots were seen singing the song in a bus following their 1-0 win over Colombia in the Copa America final in the United States, and the incident has left the midfielder's French teammates at the Blues incredibly upset, according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins.

Chelsea centre-back Wesley Fofana took to Instagram to post a clip of his club colleague leading the chants, alongside the caption: "Football in 2024. Unabashed racism".

The north London outfit has since issued a statement to say they have "instigated an internal disciplinary procedure" after insisting the club "finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour completely unacceptable".
