Odegaard Backed To Win Ballon d'Or By Arsenal Legend

According to one of the club's legends, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has the potential to capture the illustrious Ballon d'Or award.

Messi 'Wants To Beat' Ronaldo Record Before Leaving Europe

This season, Arsenal are on the precipice of winning their first league title in 19 years, and integral to their success in this campaign has been their talismanic skipper Odegaard.

The Norway international has been one of the Premier League's best midfielders this season, and having found the back of the net eight times already in the league, a team high, and provided six assists, he will be hoping to be holding the EPL trophy aloft once the campaign concludes.

Cameroon icon Lauren, who was part of the legendary "Invincibles" Arsenal squad that was crowned champions of England in 2004, believes Odegaard will be contesting for the highest individual honour in world football, the Ballon d'Or, sooner rather than later.

"Odegaard was not a cheap player, but he has been great and still has more to show. If he continues to improve, he can be a £100 million or £200 million player in the future," the former Indomitable Lion told FairBettingSites.

"I can see Odegaard compete for the top individual awards such as the Ballon d'Or, the performances of the team are helping him to grow.

"In the future, if Arsenal win the Premier League, then perform well in the Champions League next season, I believe Odegaard will be among the best in the world."

The last Scandinavian to get their hands on the prestigious Golden Ball was Denmark's Allan Simonsen in 1977, and should Odegaard win the prize while plying his trade at the Emirates Stadium, he will be the first Arsenal player in history to win it.

The 24-year-old was initially brought to north London from Real Madrid in January 2021 on loan, but would make the move permanently ahead of the 2021/22 season and has been a revelation ever since.
