Copa America Report: USA 0-1 Colombia 25 June 2016

Copa America Result: USA 0-1 Colombia Date: 25 June 2016 Venue: University of Phoenix Stadium Colombia claimed third place at the Copa America on Saturday after a 1-0 win over hosts the United States of America. Both sides started the game in a positive fashion and the USA came close in the 17th minute when Alejandro Bedoya picked out Clint Dempsey with a pull-back, but his shot took a deflection and went over the bar. The deadlock was broken in the 31st minute as Colombia took the lead. A ball over the top from James picked out Santiago Arias who headed it across goal for Carlos Bacca to fire home. The hosts came within inches to equalising six minutes later. Gyasi Zardes found Jones in the middle and he scuffed his shot before Bedoya directed the follow-up just wide of the top corner. Just after the break both sides came close to scoring. David Ospina pulled off a terrific save to keep out Dempsey's free kick, before James fired inches wide at the other end. Edwin Cardona forced Tim Howard into a big save in the last 10 minutes as he unleashed a shot from long range. Marlos Moreno then came close to netting the second for Colombia but a deflection took it just wide. The game ended with two sending offs as Michael Orozco was shown a straight red card by throwing Arias to the ground before the latter was shown a second yellow card in stoppage time.
