Copa America Report: Peru 0-0 (2-4 pen) Colombia 18 June 2016

Copa America Result: Peru 0-0 (2-4 pen) Colombia Date: 18 June 2016 Venue: MetLife Stadium After a goalless 90 minutes, Colombia beat Peru 4-2 on penalties on Friday to claim a spot in the Copa America semi-finals. Los Cafeteros put Peru under some early pressure as Carlos Bacca advanced. He was pushed towards the sideline by the defence but he got a shot away from a tight angle, forcing a reaction save from Pedro Gallese. The closest either side came to a goal was in the 21st minute when James Rodriguez beat a defender to make room for a shot from the edge of the area. He beat Gallese with his effort but found the inside of the post and saw the ball stay out. The Peruvian defence was incredibly solid throughout the game and gave Bacca little room to threaten their goal. The game remained goalless at the break. The chances for either side were few and far between after the break as the defences dominated the game. There was a rare chance in the 79th minute when a ball over the top found Bacca, but he took his eye off the ball and failed to make contact with his volley. The game went into a penalty shootout which saw Miguel Trauco's spot-kick saved by the Colombia goalkeeper, before Christian Cueva sent his penalty well over the target to give Los Cafeteros a 4-2 shootout win.
