Alexis Sanchez and company went into the match off the back of a 7-0 victory over Mexico in the quarter-final, and looked the brighter team in the opening minutes of the clash at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Charles Aranguiz got the game off to a flyer seven minutes in, when he took advantage of some poor defending from the Colombians.
Chile right back Jose Pedro Fuenzalida darted down the wing and put the ball into the danger area, and a failed clearance saw Juan Cuadrado gift Aranguiz with the easiest of chances to put Chile 1-0 ahead from a few yards out.
The Chileans added their second and final goal just four minutes after their opener – this time it was Fuenzalida who put the ball into the back of the net.
Sanchez broke through after he was played in behind the Colombian defence, and after showing great strength while muscling off a few challenges, the Arsenal star's fierce strike struck the post. However, the ball fell kindly for Fuenzalida, with the 31-year-old tapping it into an empty net.
Chile saw out the rest of the game with no real problems, setting up a Copa final against the team they beat in last year's decider – Argentina.
