The Albiceleste were without their captain Lionel Messi for the clash – a fixture that would have been seen as a rematch of the 2015 Copa final, when Chile beat Argentina on penalties.
Gerardo Martino's side looked lively in the opening minutes, with Nicolas Gaitan, who replaced the injured Messi in the starting line-up, posing a constant threat.
Ever Banega also gave Chile a few problems inside the first 45 minutes, but the match was scoreless at half-time, despite Argentina's clear dominance.
Chile created a few chances after the break, but it was Di Maria who scored the first goal of the match after 51 minutes.
The former Manchester United man needed just two touches after being slipped through by Banega – the first to control the ball and the second to find the find the back of goalkeeper Claudio Bravo's net.
Argentina doubled their lead just eight minutes later, and this time it was Banega who was played through by Di Maria. The Sevilla midfielder's shot wrong-footed Bravo after a wicked deflection, making it 2-0 to the Albiceleste.
Jose Fuenzalida pulled one back in the 93rd minute, but the goal proved to be nothing but a consolation for Chile as the Argentines were deserved winners on the night.
