Result: Swansea City 0-2 Manchester United
Date: 24 October 2017
Venue: Liberty Stadium
Jesse Lingard bagged a brace to inspire Manchester United to a 2-0 win over Swansea City in the League Cup Round of 16 on Tuesday evening.
Jose Mourinho made a number of changes for the clash, as youngster Axel Tuanzebe and Scott McTominay were handed starts.
United had plenty of the ball in the early stages and utilised the space on the wings through Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind.
Lingard opened the scoring for Mourinho's charges in the 21st minute as showed composure to pick his spot inside the box following a flicked assist from Marcus Rashford, 0-1.
The Swans showed courage to come back into the game but their final pass let them down and United were happy to sit back and go into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.
Lingard got his and United's second goal of the match through a brilliant header guided at the far post on the hour-mark following a great cross by Darmian, 2-0.
Paul Clement's troops were creating opportunities in the final 20 minutes but they lacked the killer-instinct to find the back of the net.
Mourinho introduced Luke Shaw for Anthony Martial in the closing stages, as United saw out the remaining minutes with relative ease to advance to the next round of the cup.
