Manchester United began the defence of their League Cup title with a convincing 4-1 victory against Burton Albion at Old Trafford.
United got off to the perfect start when sensational youngster Marcus Rashford after great play from the home side in the opening minutes.
It was all United early on and Rashford was looking to have make a strong statement to his coach by putting in yet another good shift for the Red Devils. Rashford managed to double his side's lead just after 17 minutes through a 20-yard drive that went in via the post to give his side a 2 – 0 lead.
Jesse Lingard did not want to miss out on the action and got his name on the scoresheet as well after 37 minutes after some neat work from Anthony Martial put the forward through on goal to extend United's lead to 3 – 0 going into halftime.
Anthony Martial was looking ominous all night and the Frenchman almost got his name onto the scoresheet after gliding through the Burton defense only to have his shot saved by Connor Ripley in the Burton goal.
Not long after, Martial finally got his goal after good interplay with Rashford saw the Frenchman put a fourth past Ripley to all but seal the contest.
The vistors managed to get a late consolation goal as Jack Dyer got on the end of a scramble in the box to poke the ball into the back of the net to reduce the deficit to 4-1.
Burton's late goal was not enough to stop United's progress to the next round with a resounding 4-1 victory.
