Chelsea beat Everton 2-1 to progress to the League Cup quarter-finals in Interim boss David Unsworth's first game in charge of the Toffees.
The hosts headed into the match as clear favourites following the sacking of Everton manager Ronald Koeman on Monday.
Having dominated the early possession, Chelsea drew first blood in the 26th minute. Willian played a short corner to Charly Musonda. The Belgian crossed the ball in and Antonio Rüdiger headed it home.
After a first half with few chances, Antonio Conte's side went into the break leading 1-0.
Everton had a chance to draw level in the 55th minute as Kevin Mirallas set up Wayne Rooney for a close-range shot with a headed pass. However, the former Manchester United striker's close-range strike was saved by Willy Caballero.
Caballero then gifted Everton another chance, playing the ball straight to Aaron Lennon — but his touch was too heavy and the veteran keeper got to the ball to send it out for a throw-in.
The Toffees looked a completely different side to the one that had been completely outplayed in the first half.
Ademola Lookman went within inches of levelling the scores in the 81st minute as he smashed the ball into the crossbar.
However, Willian sealed the game in stoppage time as his stunning strike went in off the far post after he linked up with Cesc Fabregas.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one back straight afterwards, but it was too late to inspire an Everton comeback. Chelsea marched on to the next round despite the Toffees' onslaught towards the end.
