Theo Walcott scored the only goal of the match as Arsenal defeated Doncaster Rovers 1-0 in the English League Cup on Wednesday night.
The Gunners controlled the match in the opening exchanges with Olivier Giroud coming close to grabbing the lead in the 11th minute with a snap shot.
Theo Walcott eventually opened the scoring for Arsene Wenger's troops in the 25th minute with a right footed chip following an assist from Alexis Sanchez who cut open the Doncaster defence.
Sanchez was all over the visitors' defence after 35 minutes threatening to add the second goal for the Gunners.
Arsenal were in control throughout but went into the halftime break with a slender lead over Doncaster.
Per Mertesacker came close to doubling the lead in the 56th minute with a header following a corner by Sanchez.
The hosts increased their intensity after 70 minutes with Giroud coming close again against the run of play from the edge of the box.
Alex Iwobi should have made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute but his attempted curling shot on the edge of the area went agonisingly wide.
Arsenal in the end saw out their slender lead to secure the cup win over Doncaster.
