Carabao Cup
Result: Arsenal 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur
Date:19 December 2018
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Arsenal crashed out of the Carabao Cup after losing 2-0 to North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening.
Revenge was on the minds of Tottenham for the quarterfinal showdown in the London derby, after they suffered a 4-2 defeat to the Gunners in the Premier League earlier this month.
Following a lively opening, Aaron Ramsey missed a golden chance to put the hosts in front when he blasted wide of the post on eight minutes.
After all the pressure, the Gunners fell behind against the run of play after Heung-Min Son connected with Dele Alli's pass to beat Petr Cech following a counterattack on 21 minutes.
Ten minutes later, a chance was presented to Moussa Sissoko on the counterattack, but the Frenchman was unable to keep his shot down, as the score remained 1-0 at the halftime break.
Petr Cech was called into action on a couple of occasions in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, as he pulled off two fine saves to keep out Christian Eriksen and Son in quick succession.
After fears of missing out, Harry Kane was brought on from the bench and his impact was instant as he set-up Alli with a ball over the top and he hammer edin the second goal.
Unai Emery sent on Alexandre Lacazette for Alex Iwobi and the French international nearly reduced the gap, but he was unable to find the target from close range, sending his effort wide.
Youngster Eddie Nketiah was then sent on for Matteo Guendouzi to bring solidity and quality to their attack.
The pace, particularly from an offensive point of view, died down towards the final stages, with Spurs content to hang on to their tally.
Seven minutes to full-time, Eriksen managed to crack a shot from a distance but Cech stood tall to palm it clear from danger.
The Gunners were unable to find away past the Spurs defence, as their North London rivals progress to the final four.
