Carabao Cup Report: Arsenal v Chelsea 24 January 2018

Carabao Cup

Result: Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea (Arsenal won 2-1 on aggregate)

Date: 24 January 2018

Venue: Emirates Stadium

Arsenal will face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final after they defeated Chelsea 2-1 on aggregate in their semi-final tie.

The two London sides came into the clash evenly poised after they drew 0-0 in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

After just seven minutes, the Blues broke the deadloc as Pedro Rodriguez slid a ball to Hazard, who broke into the box before firing into the bottom corner.

Arsenal were gifted an equaliser in the 12th minute when Nacho Monreal's header was deflected into the net by Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger.

The Blues were dealt a blow on 30 minutes when Willian was forced off with an injury. He was replaced by new signing Ross Barkley, who was making his debut.

Arsenal went close to restoring their lead just before the break when Jack Wilshere played in Mesut Ozil, whose deflected effort sailed inches wide of the target.

The Gunners started the second half on a stronger note as Antonio Conte's charges were pinned back into the own for most of the opening 15 minutes.

On the hour mark, Arsenal were rewarded for their dominance as Lacazette's cross deflected into the path of Granit Xhaka, who poked home from close range to put his side 2-1 up,

The hosts had a chance to kill of the tie in the 76th minute when Ozil played Alex Iwobi through on goal, however the Nigerian failed to convert past Willy Caballero.

Chelsea threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser, but Arsene Wenger's troops remained resolute to claim the win and their spot in the final.
