Carabao Cup
Result: Arsenal 3-1 Brentford
Date: 26 September 2018
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Arsenal cruised into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-1 win over Brentford at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for the Gunners in the fifth minute with a header inside the box following a quick and clever shot-corner.
Unai Emery's charges were threatening to get the second goal on set-pieces, while the visitors were still trying to settle in the match.
Welbeck bagged his brace eight minutes before halftime and made it 2-0 for Emery's men with a simple tap in after an unselfish cut-back from Nacho Monreal.
Brentford were finding cracks in the Arsenal defence in the last five minutes of the first stanza but they could not test the goalkeeper Bernd Leno and went into the break trailing 2-0 as a result.
The Gunners controlled the tempo of the match after the break but the visitors were showing glimpses of causing problems on counter-attacks.
Brentford pulled a goal back two minutes before the hour through Alan Judge, who curled home a free-kick from just outside the box.
The Gunners were guilty of not clearing their lines with a quarter of an hour remaining, giving Brentford hope to find the leveller
Alexandre Lacazette ended any hopes of a comeback for the visitor, making it 3-1 to Arsenal in the final minute of stoppage time after showing great physical strength to get past two defenders in air and tucking home the third goal.
