He beat Virgil van Dijk, who was named the UEFA Men's Player of the Year in August, to the Ballon d'Or, with Ronaldo finishing in third spot– it is the first time since 2010 that the Juventus superstar did not end up among the top two players in the world.
Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, who were both also not present at the gala, complete the top five, respectively, followed by Kylian Mbappe and Alisson Becker.
