According to Al-Watan Sport, the Swiss tactician recently informed the Red Devils' planning committee that he would prefer if the 30-year-old did not continue beyond this season.
It has been reported that there are two key reasons for this, one of them being the apparent disagreements Tau and the team's technical staff have had during this campaign.
The publication claims the former Mamelodi Sundowns forward has taken issue with the times he has been left out of Koller's preferred XI in matches.
The second reason, which the manager was believed to communicate to Al Ahly officials, is the fitness issues Tau has suffered this term.
Following South Africa's 1-1 draw with Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier early last month, he picked up an injury that has kept him sidelined for recent games.
It is noted Tau has been absent for 14 matches across all competitions this season, leaving Koller frustrated.
