Transfer Update: Nurkovic

With Raja Club Athletic's season having just come to an end and Samir Nurkovic having been assessed by the team, here is the latest regarding the Serbian's future with the Moroccan giants.

The target-man has been in the news for matters off the pitch in recent months.

The player and his representatives are currently embroiled in a payout dispute with Royal AM after the DStv Premiership side were adjudged to have terminated the 31-year-old's contract unlawfully earlier this year.

While the R12 million saga remains ongoing, Nurkovic is looking to return to top form on the pitch.

Earlier in this transfer window, Soccer Laduma confirmed that the Green Eagles of Morocco, now led by former Orlando Pirates boss Josef Zinnbauer, were keen to lure the attacker to Casablanca, but needed to assess the forward's fitness before making a conclusive decision on signing him, especially as the aerially dominant striker has not played a competitive match since his former team Kaizer Chiefs' 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns towards the end of the 2021/22 season.

The ex-Amakhosi marksman joined Raja as they were preparing for the Arab Club Champions Cup, and even got a second-half run-out against Qatari side Al Sadd in a pre-tournament friendly.

As a result of the attacker not being an official player of the club, though, he was unable to build on that performance by participating in the Arab Cup, from which Raja were recently knocked out by Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr in the quarter-finals.

In a new update regarding the Tutin native, sources close to the situation have informed Soccer Laduma that Nurkovic will rejoin the Botola Pro giants once they reconvene for pre-season, when his fitness assessment with the club will resume.

Zinnbauer is believed to be a fan of the forward and the club has the financial capacity to sign him, so all is contingent on how he fares in the upcoming pre-season, with the north African giants said to set to begin preparations for the new campaignn next week.
