According to Foot Africa, CAF has updated its annual ranking of the top 50 teams in Africa.
The index is based on each side's performance in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup over the past five seasons, so it is no wonder the Red Devils sit at the top of the pile.
The 10-time African champions have been in almost every Champions League final since 2017, with the exception being the 2018/19 campaign, while Al Ahly were victorious in two of those five finals.
The reigning kings of Africa, Wydad Casablanca, are second in the ranking following their Champions League triumphs during the 2016/17 and 2021/22 campaigns, both of those wins coming at the expense of the Red Devils.
It is a North African top three with four-time winners of Africa's premier club competition, Esperance de Tunis, completing the podium.
Morocco have the most occupants in the top five, with Africa's football governing body ranking Raja Casablanca and recently crowned CAF Confederation Cup champions RS Berkane in fourth and fifth position, respectfully.
Simba Make Decision After Baxter Meeting
The first South African team on the list comes in at sixth place, and it is Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns. The side from the country's capital are now serial participants in the knockout stages of continental competition, having made at least the quarter-finals in each of the past four campaigns.
TP Mazembe, Zamalek, Pyramids and Star of the Sahel complete the top 10.
Meanwhile, the Soweto giants were both unable to crack CAF's top 10, with Orlando Pirates coming agonisingly close thanks to their run to the CAF Confederation Cup final this past season.
The Sea Robbers are now ranked 11th while Kaizer Chiefs are in 18th spot after failing to qualify for continental competition last season.
