Ronaldo netted four goals in Portugal's 5-1 win over Lithuania earlier in the week to increase his tally to 93 goals, just 16 shy of Ali Daei's all-time record, and both forwards are some way clear of Africa's leading frontmen.

Legendary Zambian forward Godfrey Chitalu is the leading goalscorer from the African continent. The former Kabwe Warriors star netted an incredible 79 goals in 108 appearances for Chipolopolo, and was part of the squad that ended as runners-up in the 1974 Africa Cup of Nations.
Chitalu is closely followed by former Malawi star Kinnah Phiri, who scored 71 goals during his 115-game international career. Phiri is also the nation's most-capped player and later served as the national team manager between 2009 and 2013.

Ghana star Asamoah Gyan is the highest-scoring African international among active players, with the Black Stars captain having netted 51 goals for his nation thus far. Gyan, who most recently played for Turkish club Kayserispor, finds himself just five goals behind Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o, with Didier Drogba and Hossam Hassan further ahead.
