Coach Speaks On Potentially Working With Rulani At Wydad

Coach Speaks On Potentially Working With Rulani At Wydad

With Wydad Athletic Club reportedly wanting to bring in a Moroccan coach to work alongside Rulani Mokwena, one tactician linked with the job has now broken his silence on the rumours.

It has not been plain sailing for the 37-year-old since taking the reins of the Red Castle.

Having been on the cusp of completing an invincible campaign with Mamelodi Sundowns last season, the Johannesburg native has struggled for consistency since beginning coaching in Casablanca.

The South African tactician has managed to achieve three wins, two draws and three defeats in the league, in which the record Botola Pro Inwi champions are currently languishing in ninth position.

The pressure is mounting on the former Orlando Pirates manager, but for the time being, he seems to still have the support of the club's board.

One of the ways in which the executives at the three-time CAF Champions League winners are keen to empower Mokwena is by appointing a Moroccan assistant coach to help him better acclimatise to the league.

A name being touted as a potential assistant to the young head coach is Abdelilah Saber, who is a former player for the north African giants and served as an assistant to two former Wydad bosses, Juan Carlos Garrido and Zoran Manojlovic.

However, it seems he may not be reprising this role under Mokwena after revealing he is yet to be approached by the club.

He said, as per Sport7: "I have not been contacted by the Wydad administration regarding any position, and any news about my refusal to take on the position of assistant coach or my desire for the position of first coach is incorrect and does not conform to my sporting principles.

"On previous occasions, I sacrificed my professional and personal commitments for the sake of Wydad, and currently I am committed to my duties as a technical advisor outside Morocco and I am keen to fulfil my professional responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with my principles."
