For much of the transfer window, there has been talk that the Club of the Century has deemed the Bafana Bafana winger as surplus to requirements.
There has been rumours about the Witbank native possibly leaving the Cairo International Stadium for Saudi Arabia, or even Morocco, but on Sunday, he illustrated the tremendous value he can still bring to the record African champions.
The former Brighton Hove Albion star scored a brace during Ahly's 3-0 win over Gor Mahia in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie.
His performance in Kenya has subsequently seen many praise him, including Ahly's former head of planning committee, Mohsen Saleh.
The former Egyptian football executive expressed his gratitude that his former side did not sell the player, whom he believes is one of the best on the continent.
"Percy Tau joined Al Ahly and he is one of the best players in Africa, and the injury kept him out of the starting line-up, which led to him being negatively affected psychologically due to sitting on the bench for a long time," Saleh said on Hat-trick.

"I am very convinced of Percy Tau and thank God he did not leave Al Ahly, and the South African player is considered the best alternative to Wessam Abou Ali in the striker position."
