Percy Tau was influential once again as Al Ahly advanced to the CAF Champions League final after defeating ES Tunis 4-0 on aggregate.
CAF Champions League
Result: Al Ahly 1-0 ES Tunis (4-0 on aggregate)
Date: 19 May 2023
Venue: Cairo International Stadium
The Tunisian side came into the encounter without a head coach after Nabil Maaloul resigned from his postion a day after the big first-leg defeat. Anis Boussaïdi has taken charge of the visitors on an interim basis following Maaloul's departure.
As for the ten-time African champions, coach Marcel Koller went with the same outfield that started in Tunisia seven days ago, but there was a change in goal as Ali Lotfi replaced Mohamed El-Shenawy.
Tau was influential once again as the South African international played a part in the opening goal on 22 minutes as he set up Hussein El Shahat, who fired home from close range.
The away side did manage to carve out a chance nine minutes later when Mohamed Ben Romdhane's cross found Mohamed Tougai, who steered his header wide of the mark from six-yards out.
The momentum from the first half carried into the second, as Aliou Dieng went wide with an effort from distance while Mohamed Ali Hamouda squandered a close-range header in the opening 15 minutes.
The Egyptians giants made a triple change with 20 minutes to go, as Tau, El Shahat and Hamdy Fathi made way for Ahmed Abdelkader, Mohamed Afsha and Taher Mohamed.
Koller's charges were able to see out the remaining stages of the second half to shut out the Tunisian giants and seal their ticket to the Champions League final for a fourth successive campaign.
The ten-time winners will face the winner of Saturday's semi-final between Mamelodi Sundowns and defending champions Wydad Casablanca.
