Arsenal Forward Open To Switching To Nigeria

Arsenal Forward Open To Switching To Nigeria

An Arsenal forward has admitted to being open to switching his international allegiance from England to Nigeria, but only on one condition.

On-Loan Chelsea Star Reveals Latest On Potential International Switch

Folarin Balogun has been in impressive form while on loan at Stade Reims in France's Ligue 1 so far this season, having already found the back of the net seven times in just 12 appearances in the league.

The striker could be following a similar path to that taken by William Saliba, who established himself as one Europe's best young central defenders while on loan in the French top flight before returning to the London club this season and impressing ever since.

Still only 21 years old, Balogun is yet to make a senior appearance for England or his nation of birth, the United States of America.

However, because his parents are Nigerian, he is also eligible to don the famous white and green of the Super Eagles.

Balogun has now admitted that representing the three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners is a prospect that intrigues him, but added that his decision to play for the west Africans will be premised on one thing.

"I haven't heard anything from Nigeria, but I'm open to anything because Nigeria is very close to my heart," he told BBC Sport Africa.

"My family's from there. I always have love for Nigeria.

"That's a conversation that I need to have with people around me, my agent and obviously my family.

"But if I was asked about the opportunity to play for Nigeria, then I can have that conversation.

"But first I need to be asked."

New York City-born Balogun has represented both England and the USA at youth level, scoring a total of 11 youth international goals over the years, as per Transfermarkt.

Osimhen Helps Napoli Make History Against Mourinho

Should he make the switch to the Super Eagles, he could help form a fearsome attack alongside the likes of Victor Osimhen, Umar Sadiq, Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze, to name just a few.
