It has been speculated throughout the 2023/24 season that the ongoing campaign could be Tau's last at the Cairo International Stadium.
Having been so pivotal to the Red Devils' success during the 2022/23 campaign, the South African's form this season has dropped comparatively, and it now seems the Egyptian giants are keen to cash in while they still can.
The 30-year-old's current deal in the Egyptian capital expires at the end of next season, and with Ahly not eager to lose the Witbank native as a free agent, coupled with manager Marcel Koller reportedly giving the green light on a potential sale, it appears that Tau is approaching the side's exit door.

According to One3, Amir Tawfik, the football contracts director at the record African champions, is set to hold a meeting with the winger's agent Mmatsatsi Sefalafala today in an effort to reach a mutually beneficial outcome regarding Tau's future.
The same report claims that Ahly have prepared an offer for the player's exit, and will present it to Sefalafala in a Zoom meeting.
It was rumoured that newly promoted Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood were frontrunners to land Tau's services, but they are believed to not have met the Egyptian club and player's financial demands.
