African Legend Sacked After Just Nine Games In Charge Of English Side

An African legend has officially been sacked just 58 days after he was appointed as manager of an English Championship side.

Barcelona Unable To Register Star Man?

Wigan Athletic have decided to part ways with Kolo Toure as their head coach after only nine games at the helm, with the former Arsenal and Ivory Coast central defender failing to win any of the matches he took charge of.

The 41-year-old was appointed to his first head coaching role on a three-and-a-half-year contract in November 2022, succeeding Leam Richardson in the Wigan dugout, but the Latics' fortunes only worsened, with team now at the bottom of the Championship.

Wigan were 22nd when Toure was appointed, but now find themselves at the bottom of the 24-team table on 25 points, four from safety and without a win since 12 November, prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup hiatus getting underway.

His record after nine matches reads won none, drawn three, lost six, with the 2013 FA Cup winners losing their past two matches at the DW Stadium.

"Unfortunately, the results on the field have not been as we would have liked and as tough a decision as this was, the Board felt it necessary to give us the best possible chance of remaining a Championship club next season," Wigan chief executive Malachy Brannigan said in an official statement from the club.

"We know that this time of year is a key period for any football club, ourselves included. Therefore, we will now work swiftly and effectively to ensure the right person is appointed as the next permanent manager of Wigan Athletic, with the immediate objective of remaining in the Second Tier for next season."
