Following a stellar start to their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has disclosed that the Super Eagles' current coach will not be paid a salary for the tournament.

NFF chief Amaju Pinnick has revealed that interim coach Augustine Eguavoen will not be compensated financially for his role while he occupies the position during the showpiece, and that he will only receive win bonuses.
Pinnick insisted this is premised on the technicality that Eguavoen was already employed by the federation before taking over from Gernot Rohr last December on an interim basis.

"Eguavoen is on the payroll of the NFF and he won't be entitled to a salary for the role he is playing as an interim coach of the team," Pinnick said on Arise TV.
"He will be entitled to the winning bonuses as the team progresses at the tournament [2021 AFCON]."
While Eguavoen continues his exploits in Cameroon, the NFF are already looking for a permanent successor to Rohr in the Nigerian dugout.
'Nigeria Gaining Continent's Respect'
Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro is the man tipped to take over the mantle, with reports suggesting that he has already been appointed.
An unnamed NFF council member, however, has told ESPN that he is yet to sign a contract with Nigeria's football governing body.
