Senegal were enjoying the lion's share of the possession and pressing high to stop Equatorial Guinea playing out from the back.
In the 12th minute Mane won a free-kick for Senegal in a dangerous position after drawing the foul from Josete Miranda. Idrissa Gueye stepped up and curled the ball over the wall and it wasn't far away from going in at the far post.
Equatorial Guinea were looking typically resolute at the back and Senegal were lacking the right execution and decision-making in the final third.
However, they would cut open Equatorial Guinea's defence just before the half-hour mark. Mane proved the difference as his well-weighted throughball set Famara Diedhiou clear on goal and the striker planted it first-time past Jesus Owono and into the back of the net.
The National Thunder thought they had found a way back into the game five minutes after half-time when Iban Salvador's pass made contact with the hand of Khalidou Koulibaly and the referee pointed to the spot. However, the decision was overturned after it was referred to VAR.
Shortly before the hour mark, the Lions of Teranga conceded their first goal of the tournament with the National Thunder getting back on level terms. A quick free-kick caught them off-guard and Pablo Ganet played the ball into the feet of Jannick Buyla, who took one touch before producing a clever finish with the outside of his foot into the far corner.
Soon after, the National Thunder almost took a shock lead when Emiliano Nsue so nearly got on the end of a dangerous ball whipped into the box.
Cheikhou Kouyate replaced Idrissa Gueye in the 66th minute and made an immediate impact just two minutes after coming on. Equatorial Guinea made a hash of a corner delivered into their box which allowed Kouyate to lift the ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Cisse's men made the result more comfortable with ten minutes to go. A diagonal was brought down brilliantly by Saliou Cisse with his chest as he raced clear down the left before cutting it back for Ismaila Sarr, who placed the ball into the bottom right corner.
