The story
Former Bafana Bafana baller, Jabu "Shuffle" Mahlangu revealed that there are several supporters that still can't get used to his current surname.
Mahlangu, formally Pule, changed his name in 2006 after undergoing a cleansing ceremony. The dynamic attacker's career was plagued with controversy, with his substance abuse proving to be a stumbling block.
During the SABC Sport @ 10 show hosted by Andile Ncube, Mahlangu was asked if he's bothered by fans addressing him by his maternal surname, to which he answered:
"You see in KZN? Yeah they're worse in KZN. They just say, 'Pule, we know that you're a Mahlangu now but you're Pule to us,'
"It doesn't offend me but I prefer to be called Mahlangu because in using the Pule surname, that was a deep family thing. My parents, they should have done the right thing when they got married in terms of my documentation. I had to be famous using the wrong surname," shared Mahlangu, who's seemingly made peace with fans calling him Pule.
