Hot Seat - Who Is Stealing The Headlines In Europe?

Hot Seat - Who Is Stealing The Headlines In Europe?

The Fan Park Crew has launched a new feature for every Monday, where we will look at the winners, the biggest losers, the biggest topic of discussions, as well as the 'who said what' from this weekend's fixtures in Europe.

Winners – Real Madrid

Los Blancos were selected as the best winners in this weekend's fixtures, after they thumped Granada 9-1 on Sunday. The result was not only an incredible one in terms of goals scored, but it was important for Real Madrid as it saw them regain much-needed form ahead of the last stretch of the season. Cristiano Ronaldo stole the show, as he scored five goals in a single game for the first time in his career.

Losers – Manchester City

Manuel Pellegrini's men failed to regain second spot in the English Premier League as Crystal Palace handed them a 2-1 defeat at Selhurst Park. After seeing Arsenal and Manchester United leapfrog them over their weekend, they failed to respond and found themselves stuck in fourth ahead of their derby away to United this weekend.

Topics Of Discussion – The EPL's Wonder Goal Weekend

This weekend we saw a bunch of spectacular goals all around in the English Premier League, with Charlie Adam's halfway line strike against Chelsea being the pick of them. The former Liverpool midfielder picked up the ball in his own half, looked up, and struck the ball over 60 yards to beat Thibaut Courtois in Chelsea's goal. Sunderland's Jermain Defoe also scored a cracking volley against rivals Newcastle, while Alexis Sanchez's bombing strike against Liverpool was also pretty memorable.

Who Said What? – Zinedine Zidane

The former Real Madrid player hinted that Raheem Sterling may be a target for Los Blancos at the end of the season, and with the player's contract talks stalling at Liverpool, it does seem a possibility.

"We know who Raheem Sterling is, and of course we are monitoring him as a player," he said.

"We monitor many of the best young players in Europe, then if we feel they have something to offer Real Madrid we will contact their club and try and make the next step."

Player Who Needs Improving – Oscar

The Brazilian was taken off at half-time in Chelsea's win against Stoke, and came under criticism from his manager, Jose Mourinho, when the Portuguese boss said in a post-match press conference that Oscar was not good enough. Oscar has not scored a goal in 12 games for the Blues, and has failed to assist a single goal since January.
