Grant Kekana on his relationship with his mom
Grant Kekana spoke about how much his mother, Deputy Minister in the Presidency Pinky Kekana means to him and the support she's offered him throughout his career.
Kekana responded to his mother's proud reaction about his AFCON showing and his performance against Nigeria:
"It just shows how proud she is of her son. I always call her Imbokodo, because she's just been my rock. She's the only person that's ever bought me soccer boots, first person to believe in me, and allow me to chase my dreams. The only thing she wanted from me was to finish school..." says the 31-year-old,Per Mahlatse Mphahlele.
"She's always been in my corner, always been my number one supporter and I'll always cherish her. I'll always try and make her proud and yeah, she's just been my rock, man.
"I run out of words to kind of describe my relationship with her. As much as it looks good on camera and stuff, you know we're always fighting. But it's because she always wants the best from me. So yeah, I'm just happy that she was happy..." he added.
"It's just good that one is able to show her that all the belief that you've shown me throughout the years, this is what it's come too. I'm just happy that she's happy and proud of me. She's been calling me everyday, just saying; 'You know what, you guys can actually do this [win AFCON], 'You guys are making us proud,' and it's good to hear that because she started this whole journey with me.
"For her to see me on the continental stage, you know, doing my thing — I think she realises that all the sacrifices she's made for me have paid off," he concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana defender Grant Kekana was one of the standout centre-backs at this year's Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire.
His partnership with Mothobi Mvala saw them keep four clean sheets in-a-row, forming a solid back five with teammates Ronwen Williams, Aubrey Modiba and Khuliso Mudau.
Unfortunately for Kekana, his tournament did not end in ideal fashion. He was sent off in extra-time against the Super Eagles in the semi-final last Wednesday.
He made a last ditch effort to win the ball back from Nigeria striker Terem Moffi and clipped him outside the box, with Moffi bearing down on goal. It was seen as an admirable self-sacrifice from Kekana, with his mom heaping praise on him at last week's SONA:
