We sadly see this shameful act happening more and more in football today, but some players are better at it than others. Today the Fan Park Crew brings you five of the worst ever dives to have ever graced the game!
Cristiano Ronaldo Fakes Face Injury
The Portuguese superstar has play-acted a few times in his career, but this deserved to be in a theatre, not on the football field. The Real Madrid forward contested a ball with AC Milan's Christian Abate, and when the defender put his hand across Ronaldo's chest, the former Manchester United player went down holding his face, in an appeal to get his opposite number sent off.
Rivaldo In The 2002 World Cup
Against Turkey, Rivaldo was waiting at the corner flag for an opposition player to give him the ball so he could take the kick. However, the Turkish player kicked the ball relatively harder than was necessary, and the ball struck the Brazilian's knee. Rivaldo fell to the ground quite theatrically and got his opponent sent off.
Drogba Against Napoli
With his power, it would be hard to imagine that the Ivorian would play-act the way he has done so on many occasions - but this incident was the worst. In an attempt to get to the ball before his marker, Drogba fell to the floor claiming that the defender had hit him in the face. Poor showing by Drogba, as cameras caught him peeping through his hands to see if his trick had worked.
Referee Gets Pushed By Paulo Di Canio
In a fit of rage, the Italian, who was playing for Sheffield Wednesday, shoved the referee after he was shown a red card. It was a light shove, but the ref took five steps back before flinging himself to the ground. Can a referee book himself for diving?
David Luiz Laughs After Diving
The Brazilian was trying to waste time in the corner when countryman, Rafael, took a swipe from behind. In Rafael's defence, there was minimal contact in the challenge and after making the most out of it, Luiz smiled at the crowd with his back to the referee.
Can you name any other shocking dives you've seen?
