The record Tunisian champions have officially appointed Maher Kanzari as their new boss ahead of their continental clash with Masandawana. The Blood and Gold have taken the decision to appoint the 52-year-old after recently parting ways with Romanian tactician Lauren?iu Reghecampf.
Reghecampf succeeded now Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso earlier this campaign, but it is alleged that after seeing a decline in performance and results in recent weeks, the chiefs of the Tunis-based institution came to the decision to fire him and appoint Kanzari.
A former player of the four-time African champions, this will be the third occasion that Kanzari takes charge of the North African giants, having previously been at the helm in 2010 and in 2013.
Since his last stint with the club, the Tunis native has spent time with various other Ligue Professionnelle 1 sides such as Stade Tunisien and CA Bizertin, as well as a variety of Tunisia youth national team sides, while also challenging himself in Saudi Arabia and Qatar with Ohod Club and Al-Wakrah SC respectively.

While having coached his former side before, Kanzari's first match back in charge with Esperance will perhaps be his toughest as he is set to come up against Ka Bo Yellow. The two sides faced off in last season's iteration of African football's premier club competition in the semi-finals, with the Tunisian juggernauts coming out on top, but now the two sides will renew their rivalry in the Round of 16.
