Following the dismissal of Christian Gross from the White Knights earlier this year, one of the managers rumoured to be of interest to the Cairo-based outfit was the man known as Jingles.
The club ended up hiring former Nigeria boss Jose Peseiro in February.
The 60-year-old enjoyed a brilliant spell during his first tenure in Egypt while leading Al Ahly. During his initial stint in the Egyptian capital, he won eight titles with the Red Devils, and his success with the Club of the Century paved the way for him to have various adventures in the Gulf region.
He was last in charge of Esteghlal FC in Iran, but following a contract dispute with them, he is now a free agent. Zamalek were rumoured to be keen on signing the Kagiso native, but now one of the club's board of directors, Hany Shoukry, has refuted those claims, stating that no discussions took place with him or his representatives.
"Zamalek did not enter into any seasonal negotiations, neither directly nor indirectly," Shoukry said while speaking to OnTime Sports.
Since leaving Egypt, Mosimane has managed in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and more recently, Iran.
He is yet to find a new job since leaving Tehran earlier this season, but having accomplished so much with Ahly, it is likely that his stock will remain high and that he will attract a lot of interest in Africa and beyond.
