Abubakar Lawal has officially passed away after reportedly falling from a third-floor balcony at the Voicemall Shopping Arcade in the Ugandan capital of Kampala. The 29-year-old striker played for one of the nation's biggest clubs, Vipers Sports Club, before his demise.

It is understood that the West African marksman was visiting his Tanzanian friend in her apartment, which was part of the mall itself. While she was making tea for him, he reportedly went over the balcony and suffered a fatal fall.

In 2023, Lawal helped Vipers win a domestic double, capturing the league and cup. Following the announcement of his death, the club released a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating:

"Abubakar Lawal {Man from Sokoto} was a unique person. He had a big heart of gold. He really cared about people and went out of his way to help. He was incredibly generous. He had a beautiful soul and we will miss him so much. He was a people person."

Some initial reports claimed that he had passed away due to a motorcycle accident. Due to the conflicting information, Nigerian legend Ahmed Musa said that Lawal's death demands a thorough investigation.

According to the BBC, the Ugandan police are now conducting an investigation into the circumstances that led to the striker's death.
