This past weekend, the Red Castle ascended to second place in the Botola Pro Inwi standings—the highest the club has been on the log all campaign—after securing a fifth successive league victory for the first time this season.
Morocco's record champions beat 10-man SSC Mohammedia 5-1, their biggest league win of the 2024/25 campaign, placing Wydad in a CAF Champions League position. However, their South African head coach was not present for the auspicious occasion due to the passing of his grandmother.
Speaking to the media after the win, Wydad assistant Sinethemba Badela revealed that it had been an emotional week at the club and that their victory was dedicated to the Johannesburg native and his family.
"It's been a tough week emotionally and mentally," Badela said, as per Le Site Info.
"When one of us is hurting, we are hurting too."
"The players told us we had to win for the coach, and when you see the statistics, they ran more than ever. It's also good to win for the fifth time in a row since the start of the season.
"Congratulations to the Wydad team. Today, frankly, we missed coach Mokwena."
