The story
Everton defender, Ashley Young, was unable to face his son, Tyler, in Thursday night's 2-0 FA Cup victory over League One side Peterborough.
Despite not facing each other on the pitch, Ashley and Tyler shared a heartfelt father/son moment after the final whistle, embracing and exchanging a few words.
The 39-year-old England international and former Manchester United man was a second-half substitute in the Toffees' Third Round win over third-tier opponents Peterborough, who had his 18-year-old son on their own bench.
No father and son duo has ever played against each other in 154 years of English's football oldest competition, and the prospect of that changing at Goodison Park built plenty of anticipation for this clash.
After Tyler was an unused substitute by Darren Ferguson (Sir Alex Ferguson's son) Ashley took to Twitter/X to post a one-word message, 'GUTTED' on Friday morning, having previously expressed that it was his 'dream' to share the pitch with his oldest child.
