The East African nation failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and, as a consequence, decided to part ways with Engin Firat.
The Kenyan Football Federation is now searching for a new tactician to succeed the Turk, and one name heavily linked with the position is that of McCarthy.
Bafana Bafana's record goalscorer left his role as Manchester United forward coach before the commencement of the 2024/25 campaign and has been vocal about his desire to return to the dugout.
The Cape Town native has been persistently touted as Kenya's next head coach, and former midfielder Titus Mulama believes the 47-year-old has what it takes to succeed on the international stage.
"If he is appointed, it will be great because he understands African football because he played here and he is an African. So it will be easy for him to connect with the players and understand our football culture," the 60-capped international told Tuko.

"Moreover, he has been an assistant in a top-level team, and therefore, he understands how to work with players and bring out the best performances.
"Players will also be motivated because they also be working with a coach who has been there and done that."
