It has been a good year for South African football, as the nation on the southern tip of the continent is well represented at the CAF Awards. On the men's side, the only category where there is no representative from the home of the 1996 African champions is the Young Player of the Year.
In all the other classifications, the Rainbow Nation is flying its flag high, and that is in large part due to Ronwen Williams. The 32-year-old, who was recently placed ninth in the Yachine Trophy ranking at the Ballon d'Or award ceremony, is in the running to win three prizes.
The Gqeberha native is up for arguably the biggest prize on the night, the Men's Player of the Year, as well as Goalkeeper of the Year and Interclub Player of the Year.
His shot-stopping ability played a major part in helping Bafana Bafana finish third at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and consequently, Bafana Bafana are also in the running for Men's National Team of the Year. Williams' club side is also in contention to claim a prize, as Mamelodi Sundowns have made the final five teams that could win Club of the Year.
While he may not be South African, the national team head coach Hugo Broos is among the final nominee for the Coach of the Year.
