Happy Jele Hints At Big Announcement

Happy Jele has shared an update on the future of his playing career, a year and a half after leaving Royal AM.

The story

Former Orlando Pirates captain, Happy 'Magents' Jele has provided some clarity over his future, as the experienced defender has remained a free agent since parting ways with Royal AM in June 2023,

Jele made the surprising switch to Thwihli Thwahla in February 2023 on a free transfer after his contract with the Buccaneers was not renewed, ending a 16-year stint at the club.

During his time at Royal AM, Magents made just four appearances across all competitions in the 2022/23 season, a campaign where Shauwn Mkhize's club finishing 11th in the league.

In speaking to Morena Mothupi on the Smash Sports' 'Football Faras' podcast, the 37-year-old has hinted at calling time on his career sooner rather than later.

"I haven't announced it yet, but it's something that is on my mind. It's very difficult for a player to come back after over a year and being in competition with other players, it's very difficult.

"For now, it's [retiring] is in my thoughts, I think any time soon, I'll do it," said Magents when asked on the status of his professional football career.

Since his departure from Royal AM, Magents has been involved in a number of side quests, including brand work as an ambassador for Betway, Carling Black Label, and Vodacom.

Jele has also collaborated with smaller entities such as local fashion brand, Suit Luxe and skincare company, Skin Esteem. More recently, he's immersed himself into the world of podcasting, co-hosting a show called 'iDiski Dine' with OBI Knows.

The veteran defender has received some recognition from the Gauteng Department of Social Development, earning himself a nomination in the sports category for the 365 Men's Awards.

The awards allow for Gauteng citizens to vote and nominate positive male role models in their communities, across of a myriad of categories.
