FUSA On R1000 Soccer Salaries: 'We Have A Strong Case'

The PSL could be cracking down on a Motsepe Foundation Championship club in relation to alleged failure to meet its obligations on paying players properly.

As confirmed to the Siya crew by the the Football Union of South Africa (FUSA), the process is underway for the alleged guilty club to be brought before the league after it emerged that certain players were being paid R1000 per month in salaries.

Speaking to the Siya crew, FUSA secretary general Taelo 'Salter' Motloung confirmed that the process has been started with the PSL to intervene in what he terms as exploitation.

"We are aware of the matter and some players are on contracts stating that they are earning R3000 to R5000 per month, others R5000 and so on. But in some cases, players are not even getting paid those amounts in full and that is what is concerning us. Players at those clubs have been getting paid as low as R1000 per month despite already being on low salaries," said Motloung, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

"We have sent the club statements of claim and from there the next step is that the matter is being referred to the league. We believe that we have a strong case and that the league will act on the matter. The players there are struggling. It's the few senior players in the team who are managing to survive here and there but for the rest of the players it's a struggle. We see this as exploitation of our members and it should be condemned," the ex-professional footballer added.
